Who Are We?

The Occupy Church is an ecumenical Christian movement formed to address the issue of corporate power, in our hearts, our lives, and in governance. Over time, this has led to a great inequality which has eroded the foundations of democracy. We awaken to a world that is bent on its own destruction, with the authors of destruction at the helm.

For instance, nearly all non-food products on the shelves were made in conditions of near-slavery, at great cost to the ailing earth. That is to say, throughout the processes of production, money was set over and above the health of human beings and the earth. We are left with few options which reflect our Christian values of good stewardship of the earth’s resources and our belief in human dignity.

This is more than a religious preference. Climate change means that we are in an urgent struggle for the future of the planet itself.

We call on Christians to embark on a journey of repentance and transformation together. We recognize that in order to change the principalities and powers of our world we must unite in collective action. Towards that end, we invite you to form small groups that can contemplate and act deeply, with worship, community building, and decision-making components.

This website is a chronicle of our journey together. If you are on this journey, please contact us and tell us about your work. We will highlight your story and link to it.

We will gather resources, reflections, and tools (this site will be launched with an activist toolkit eventually) towards the end of furthering these autonomous groups for prayer and action.
